15 To 1 With Dr Syntax
This week we are joined for our 15 questions by a hip hop artist whose name suggests some quality literacy skills and he doesn’t disappoint with the most impressive punctuation and capital letter usage so far. Makes my life more easy you see so I thought I’d share that nugget. Anyway, he’s been a busy chap with a fine album out last year with The Mouse Outfit and a new one to promote in collaboration with Pete Cannon. Oh, and he’s down on the Isle of Wight this Friday! It’s…
15. Where are you right now?
Didsbury village, South Manchester.
14. Dog or cat?
They both have their respective charms. Cats are cute, but if you were small enough they would toy with you and kill you. Dogs are loyal and loving, but you have to become far too intimate with their shit.
13. What is the greatest record ever made?
I don’t think one record can ever hold that title. Far too many variables. The most important record to me is Public Enemy’s ‘Fear Of a Black Planet’, as it’s the first record I really listened to properly.
12. Cake or biscuit?
The humble Jaffa Cake, stranded in EU-baffling cake/biscuit limbo.
11. When did you last cry?
Erm, a couple of weeks ago.
10. What is your favourite cheese?
Reblochon, preferably melted in a tartiflette.
9. If you change one thing about the world what would it be?
The division of power and wealth.
8. Have you ever ridden a horse?
Yep. I was about 15, on a school French exchange. I didn’t really command the required respect from my mount. The ignorant bugger kept stopping to chew on foliage. Perhaps an English horse would have been more on my wavelength.
7. What is the next record you are going to buy?
Dubbul O ‘Omega’.
6. What is the key to happiness?
Doing what you love and having good relationships with the people around you.
5. Do you need to plug anything shamelessly?
Yes please. My new album with Pete Cannon, ‘Killer Combo’, is available now from www.drsyntax.bandcamp.com. The official launch party is at Antwerp Mansion, Manchester, on 11th April. God, I hope some people turn up.
4. You have one bullet, no come back, who gets it?
Crikey, that’s grim. I don’t really wish death on anyone. Perhaps moderately humiliating inconvenience on a couple of shits.
3. Red or black?
Hmm, I guess black. It’s a bit more versatile.
2. North or South?
Well, I need some context here. But I’m very happy living in the North, if that’s any help.
1. Who are you?
I’m Dr Syntax. Obvs.
Dr Syntax and Pete Cannon play Coburgs, Ryde on Friday April 4th for Happy Feet. Door tax only £4 with support from 2nd Class Citizenz, Peasant Theory and Cooly Haste.
