First wave of Bestival 2016 acts announced
The first wave of acts for Bestival have been announced, and my goodness, Robby & the Sunday Best team clearly aren’t resting on their laurels after winning ‘Best Major Festival’ at The UK Festival Awards.
Returning to headline the Saturday night for a second time, after a 3 hour marathon of a belting set in 2011 is The Cure. “We are very very happy to be back at our favorite festival,” front-man Robert Smith said. We can’t wait to play a special set to show the future IS what it used to be…”
Heading up the Friday night is globally-spanning part starters Major Lazer. Comprised of producers Diplo, Jillionaire & Walshy Fire, the groups mixing-pot of Reggae, Socca, Dubstep, Dub, Mommbahton and Hip-Hop caused absolute carnage in 2014 when they did a stand-up job of holding down proceedings in the sunset slot. It’s been a slow climb for the trio, who started off their Bestival journey DJing in The Big Top, whom in just 6 short years have risen to become one of the hottest acts in the global electronic scene.
“I remember going to see an exhausted, sweating Diplo after his last main stage show for us and he said ‘headline next time?’, so here we are!” said Rob Da Bank.
Taking the now, almost cult-like Thursday night headlining slot in the Big Top is firm Bestival favorites Hot Chip. This will mark the 6th time the indie-dance outfit have played Bestival, and their sets always attract a huge crowd of loyal fans.
But it’s not just about the headliners, and the card features some incredible names this year. Standout selections include sets from Damien ‘Jr. Gong’ Marley, Animal Collective, Richie Hawtin and with Takeovers from David Rodigan Pres. Ram Jam, Annie Mac Presents, Kurupt FM’s Champagne Steam Room, Hospitality and Eskimo Dance.
