The Gorgeous Chains – ‘Marina & I’ + ‘By The Highway’ (Double A-Side Review)
Nottingham 6-piece ‘The Gorgeous Chains’ have been carving out a shimmering little niche for themselves recently. Originally forming as a jam-band riffing off Paul Simon’s classic gem ‘Graceland’, the outfit are moving onto their own pastures, with a solid double A-side that’s already picked up some well-deserved affection from BBC6music.
The band were originally championed by Huw Stephens after he encountered them at Bestival last year, and have since had a whirlwind year, culminating in their first single release, ‘Marina & I’ and ‘By The Highway’.
It’s clear that this is a band that have taken their time, it’s not a rushed effort. What you’re getting here is some fresh, chilled summer vibes with indie-pop guitars that resonate with a pleasant twang, a brass section that shimmers, and a rhythm section that are atop their game. ‘By The Highway’ in particular, has all the makings of a summer festival anthem.
Essentially it’s indie-pop distilled through a heady layer of Afrobeat. It’s a bold pallet of flavors that undeniably works. You can grab a copy NOW via Itunes, and given that this is a self-published release from a band pushing some interesting styles, It’s definatly worth checking out.
